Backyard BBQ Look for 4th of July

Happy Independence Day! This isn’t a political blog, but truth be told I’m having a hard time feeling patriotic this year with the policies I see being carried out that don’t value human rights, treat all people equally, and promote liberty & justice for all. Still, I believe in my fellow Americans and am encouraged by the bravery, generosity, and kind-heartedness I continue to see. That’s why I’m still celebrating 4th of July — with a red, white, and blue getup that’s affordable enough to allow me to make an Independence Day donation to the ACLU!

I paired this red sleeveless top with charming embroidery from Lucky Brand with patterned shorts from J. Crew, for a patriotic look that’s edging on boho-style. I like to have a little bit of a heel when I wear shorts. Wedges are a great pick for outdoor events because they handle well in the grass opposed to heels, and this pair from Tom’s is a summer fave with the navy fabric and cork wedge.

S.J. from All Glam No Filter helped me celebrate with mocktails, dressed to the nines in her stars stripes & stripes ensemble. We served our refreshments on the most adorable watermelon basket tray I thrifted for just $2!

For accessories, I knew I needed some glitz and what better for the 4th than stars? These pretty bobby pins purchased at Ulta are such an easy way to glam up a hair-do! My favorite macrame summer handbag joined the party as well.

It ended up being such a purrfect afternoon even my temperamental cat, Beedy, couldn’t resist the festivities.

The Breakdown
Top – Lucky Brand, thrifted for $7
Shorts – J. Crew, thrifted for $10
Belt – Thrifted for $5
Wedges – Tom’s, thrifted for $10
Hair accessories – Purchased at Ulta for under $10
Macrame Handbag – Most Everything Vintage $22
Sunglasses – Free, just borrow from S.J.’s extensive collection 😉

Total Cost $62

This cost-friendly outfit leaves lots of room in the budget for BBQ fixins and donating to organizations that are working hard to protect our freedoms. Hope you have a wonderful and safe 4th of July celebrating with family and friends!

xo,
Lizzie
