A New Direction for The Thrill of the Thrift

Come Alive_Harold WhitmanHello friends! We’re beginning to see the seasons change and along with it I’m excited to bring some change to The Thrill of the Thrift. I hinted at a new direction for the blog in my last post and I’m thrilled to finally get to share what’s in store with you.

I have long been a peruser of thrift stores, vintage, consignment, and flea markets. Part of the appeal to me is digging for that diamond in the rough. Finding a beautiful, unique piece that stands out from the rest and taking it home with me for an unbeatable price is truly a thrill! (Hence the namesake of my blog. 😉) However, the greater appeal how thrifting provides for a financially and environmentally sustainable lifestyle that isn’t dependent on consuming items that will ultimately end up in a landfill. I truly believe that one can have a beautifully curated life that is not driven by materialism.

Sharing my escapades in thrifty fashion here for the past four months has been a blast! I’ve loved the challenge of styling head-to-toe looks with a cost of under $100. But I’ve felt like something has been missing… like I haven’t been showing up to the blog with my full self. So, I’m gonna keep bringing you fun thrifty fashion posts, but also begin to share more of my personal values and goals, and how I support them with my thrifty lifestyle choices.

Our values define us and have a profound impact on how much happiness and fulfillment we find in our lives. When we’re not acknowledging and living our values, we feel inauthentic and powerless. I’ve recognized some ways that my current choices are not upholding my values, so I want to make some changes in these areas. As I go along, I’d love to take you with me. I’ll be sharing my wins and my failures here on the blog — because we all know progress is seldom a steady climb!

I can’t wait to get started on this journey and share it with you in upcoming blog posts, but before I wrap up today’s post I want to share my newly re-defined core values with you:

Love. Accept others just as they are. Look for opportunities to uplift and encourage. Leave people better than you found them. Live sustainably. Do no harm.

Joy. Take time to appreciate all the beauty life has to offer. Laugh. Dance. Sing. Share your joy with others.

Creativity. Make good art, make bad art, just make art and don’t worry if it’s good or bad. Embrace your emotions. Seek out meaningful projects and work.

Adventure. Experiences are more meaningful than things. Do things that are out of your comfort zone and feel a little scary. Take the leap.

Freedom. Empower yourself to make life choices that make you come alive. Empower others to do the same.

What do you think of the new direction? Do you have core values you’ve defined for your life? Or this season of your life? If you do, I’d love to hear about them in the comments. Until next time!
